Schoenheitz 2004 Riesling Herrenreben (Alsace) – Very intense, somewhere between molten steel and lava, with vibrant metal-jacketed apple and a powerful palate impact. May be a bit too much for some, but it’s dry and vibrant, and appears to have the requisite stuffing and length to age. (4/09)

Schoenheitz, shown lows
Schoenheitz 1998 Riesling Herrenreben “Vendanges Tardives” (Alsace) – Not all that sweet, in what used to be the traditional style for Alsatian VTs, with a stark, arctic character. This could be a lot more generous, but it’s possible that the wine’s just closed up. The finish is pretty short, though, and so I’m not overly optimistic. (12/08)

That'll put Herrenreben on your chest
Schoenheitz 1998 Riesling Herrenreben “Vendanges Tardives” (Alsace) – Simple, upfront flavors, with fine acidity and excellent balance. There’s just not much to talk about. Maybe in ten years. (10/07)
