Gaston Chiquet 1997 Champagne Brut (Champagne) – Disgorged 18 July 2005. Biting. Grapefruit, bubbles, grapefruit, more bubbles, later, rinse, repeat. Very precise. (5/11)

Chiquet monkey
Gaston Chiquet Champagne “1er Cru” Brut “Tradition” (Champagne) – Wind-swept and cold, with rinds and hard-edged quarts. Frothy. Unconvincing in this company, and I’m surprised, because this is a wine I usually like. (12/08)

Chiquet fliquet
Gaston Chiquet Champagne Brut “Tradition” (22/07/2005) (Champagne) – Dry, dry, dry. Ascetic, almost. Yet it persists, laser-like in its focus, though it chills and then abrades. I come back to it again and again, searching for warmth. There’s none. But maybe it doesn’t need any. (8/08)

Chiquet magnet
Gaston Chiquet Champagne “1er Cru” à Dizy “Tradition” Brut (Champagne) – Gritty lees with a softening, almost warming brioche character and a smooth, supple mousse. Polished and elegant, with length and subtlety. (10/07)
